Looking for a test this morning, I fell on a text that I thought was very interesting and informative: a bit of History on the origin of the expression «Été des Indiens» in Canada.
The test itself contains no particular grammar topics… all you will have to do is pick the right word… It could be anything: a verb, an adjective, a noun, a past participle, an adverb, etc.
I took it and actually, I have not encountered any traps and I scored 70/70… well, in my opinion anyways… since I did not hesitate on any of the choices. Let me know if I am wrong!
Spring has been officially around for the past month, yet temperatures are still cold out there… when I got up this morning, it was only 4 degrees celsius… I think temperatures are below average for this time of the year. I will try and enjoy the bit of sun we have today because they are calling for a rainy week!
Yet… the birds are out and singing!
It is somewhat comforting and full of promises for better days!

J’ai eu 60/70 aujourd’hui. Je me suis trompée sur appellation et arrière-saison.
En France on parle de “l’été indien” et non pas de “l’été des indiens”…
J’ai appris un nouveau mot aussi : québécisme !!!

Entre nous, mon premier choix s’était arrêté sur «arrière saison», mais je me suis ravisée à la dernière minute (en repassant les règles des mots composés en français dans ma tête!).
Ici, on dit «été des Indiens» en référence aux autochtones eux-mêmes… comme s’il s’agissait de leur été et non du nôtre… un peu compliqué, je te le concède!
Hé oui!… un québécisme est un gallicisme propre aux Québécois… comme tu vois, une autre raison de désigner le Québec comme étant une société distincte au sein du Canada!

Well, I hemmed & hawed over some of these, but lucked out overall: 65/70. Just missed the quoi qu’il. Picky picky! This was an interesting little article to read btw.

The one you missed was intended to be a trap (in my opinion) because so many people struggle with this (is it one word or two words?).
I thought the story was interesting so it would ease the pain of taking a test!
