Today Alicia wrote both her reading comprehension and written expression tests… I can hardly wait to hear about her results! Yet I am convinced she did really good… this young lady there is bilingual, as far as I can judge, and I have no worries.
I saw Christie for the last time before dinner… it was her last rehearsal before her oral interaction test tomorrow morning. She did very well and I was quite proud of her performance: she understood each question and answered in a natural and charming way! If she ever were stressed, it did not show at all… I am sure she will do just fine tomorrow!… And, then, we will have to wait for her results also. It will be another painful week I am afraid!

Friday I will start preparing Peggy, a new student, for her upcoming reading comprehension and written expression tests… The minute I am finished with one of my trainees, there is always another one to take the spot left vacant… It is okay by me, I really want to help as many people as I can and I do not hesitate to give up my weekends to make sure they will have enough time to get ready. When they get their levels, it is my best reward!… Nothing could make me happier…
In the meantime, I have been looking for a challenging test today… I am not sure this one is, although it was kind of a wake up call for me… Each time I try to download the French version of any software, it just does not agree with me and I always end up replacing it with the English version. Is it due to the fact that when IT became part of our lives, nothing was available in French?… when I use someone else’s computer with Windows in French, I do freak out!… The terminology used is just beyond me… though I know it, I do not use it and, because of that, it seems to never sink in…
I got a perfect score on this short test, but I had to think and re-think before I hit the answer button! I was not confident at all… Consequently I have no intent to brag about my results tonight! It will be interesting to see how you will do on this one!
The sun is finally out… temperatures are slowly, but surely, getting a bit higher each day (a long process this year!)…
I am eager to go to the Byward Market and buy some fresh stuff!

Tu ne seras pas étonnée d’apprendre qu’en France nous n’utilisons aucun des termes français indiqués dans ce test !!

En effet, je ne suis pas étonnée! J’ai souvent remarqué qu’en informatique les Français emploient la terminologie en anglais: un “mail”… un “post”… alors qu’ici, nous employons les termes «message électronique» et «article»… Il faut dire que le Québec est responsable de la version française de presque toute la terminologie reliée à la technologie de l’information… alors les gens, surtout les jeunes, l’emploient de façon courante!

Wow . . . 25/25! Though I have to admit I’ve never actually used these terms in French before. In fact, I’ve never used some of them in English either. Just tried to reason what might make sense.

I did exactly the same: I tried to figure out (for a couple that were close in meaning) what might make sense… Younger people here use this IT terminology, but my generation learned about computers in English only and it was kind of too much of an effort to convert to the French version after so many years! Though I agree that I wasn’t even aware of some terms in English (I think only computer geeks use this vocabulary!)
